Photo Paper Through Laser Printer??

Hi All:

I have a dumb question -

Has anybody ever sent a page of glossy photo paper through a laser printer?
Color or B&W?

I'm just wondering if it worked or if it screwed up the machine.

Not a good idea. Photo papers have special coatings which will not stand up
to the heat of a fuser. This will result in damage to the fuser.

It would be a very costly oops, and maybe a visit from a service
company and most likely a new fuser, if you can't fix it your self.

I had to replace a fuser sleeve for a HP4000 series do to transperancy
that got stuck. Just yesterday I had to mess around with a 4500 color
do to the same problem but they had to replace the fuser $$$.

Thanks all for the above advice. You've confirmed my suspicions that the
photo paper can't handle heat.

Celcast produce a High Gloss Laser Paper at 142gsm, specially designed for laser
printers. Not quite as heavy as "Photo paper" but still a good result.

As other replies have said, don't do it, at least not with inkjet paper.
You can get laser glossy paper, I tend to use HP's C4179B for glossy
paper, certainly not up to the standard of the glossy inkjet card stuff,
but its much cheaper, about 6p or 10c or so.

Yes, I've done ir with my Minolta QMS Magicolor. No problem with the
printer, but unlike with the transparent ink of an inkjet, color
prints with a color laserjet do not come out glossy. And there are
some slight impressions of the rollers on the paper, though you'd hsve
to be particular to notice,

My new Xerox Phaser 8200 does rather better than the QMS, as it uses
solid ink, the ink has quite a sheen even on el cheaper photocopy paper,
and is certainly better than the QMS could do on the laser glossy paper.

I've seen this on prints made with ink-jets, too, eg Kodak
Picture Paper Soft Gloss. Seems to be a matter of the paper
itself - perhaps it has a softer surface layer.
